Six Lutheran congregations across Greater New Haven participated in God’s Work, Our Hands Sunday, Sept. 11, 2022.
Volunteers from Trinity Lutheran, Emanuel Lutheran and the United Way assembled Welcome Home Kits for former homeless families transitioning into housing.
The volunteers at Trinity, New Haven, assembled 22 Welcome Home Kits.
Volunteers from Tabor Lutheran and Christ the Good Shepherd assembled meal kits for delivery to local food banks.
The volunteers at Tabor Lutheran in Branford boxed up enough kits to provide nearly 7,000 meals.
Youth from Bethesda Lutheran, New Haven, collected diapers for the Diaper Bank of North Haven.
Volunteers also served at Beth-El Soup Kitchen in Milford.
In Hamden, volunteers from Christ the Good Shepherd cleaned up the grounds of the Keefe Community Center.
CGSLC Council VP Leo Goodrich (center) worked with clergy and congregational leadership to organize the event.

Six Lutheran congregations across Greater New Haven joined forces on Sunday, Sept. 11, to make a difference in their communities through God’s Work, Our Hands Sunday. This annual day of service was an an opportunity for Lutheran congregations across the country to help others, while celebrating the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) as “one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor.”

In addition to Christ the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church (CGSLC), the other participating congregations were Bethesda Lutheran Church, New Haven; Emanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Haven; Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church, Branford; Trinity Lutheran Church, Milford; and Trinity Lutheran Church, New Haven.

Thanks to CGSLC Council VP Leo Goodrich for his work on this project, which brought together more than 65 volunteers who worked on a range of service projects — from assembling “Welcome Home Kits” for former homeless shelter residents transitioning into housing, to packaging meal kits aimed at hunger in our communities — and more.
