The community garden at Christ the Good Shepherd was started in summer 2023 by a small group of volunteers from the congregation in partnership with members of Grace and St. John’s Episcopal Church. The garden grew from a desire to use some of the land on our property to start a ministry to the food insecure in the town of Hamden.
With support from the Hamden Food Task Force and the town of Hamden, members of the congregation built a small garden behind the church to provide produce to the Hamden Food Bank. In its first year, the garden yielded over 100 pounds of produce, which was donated to the Hamden Food Bank.
We look forward to continuing and growing this ministry! There are many ways in which you can help, from donating supplies to tending the garden.
