Summer may be winding down, but “An Afternoon of Music” awaits at Christ the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 600 Shepard Ave., Hamden, on Saturday, Sept. 17. The public is invited to attend Gemsong Productions Acoustic Duo with Carla Gemma featuring Ken SPiN. The concert will take place from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. and will be held rain or shine.
Bring a lawn chair or a blanket and settle in for a family-friendly afternoon of musical favorites from across a wide genre of music – from pop, rock and disco to country, Motown and soul – performed by vocalist Carla Gemma Trutnau and Ken SPiN, a guitarist, pianist and singer. In the event of rain, the concert will be held inside the church, and attendees will be seated on a first-come, first-served basis, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
“All I could say was ‘yes’ when Carla offered to share her gifts with us! I don’t think there’s any better way for our congregation to celebrate over a year of being together than inviting the community to join us for a joyful afternoon of music,” said the Rev. Joshua Sullivan, pastor of Christ the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
Admission is free, but attendees are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the Hamden Food Bank.

Song requests will be taken jukebox-style for a donation. Proceeds will benefit Grace & St. Peter’s Dinner-for-a-Dollar Food Ministry, which provides nutritious, home-baked meals for the food insecure of Hamden and the surrounding Greater New Haven community.
The Dinner-for-a-Dollar Food Truck will be on-site at the concert, serving up hot dogs, hamburgers and pasta salad on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendees also may bring their own food and non-alcoholic beverages if they choose.

Well-known for her vocals in the Greater New Haven area, Carla Gemma has performed with local bands and national artists, and has sung the national anthem at sporting events.
