Every Sunday, the church celebrates the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. At Christ the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Hamden, the Holy Spirit gathers us in worship each week to receive the gifts of God that come to us through Christ. As we enter Holy Week this week, we prepare for what has come to be known as “The Three Days.”
These central days recall Jesus’ own words to his disciples that he would be handed over to death, and that “after three days he will rise again” (Mark 10:34). The Three Days during Holy Week encompass the time from Maundy Thursday evening through the evening of Easter Day. On Maundy Thursday, we recall the Last Supper and Jesus’ betrayal; on Good Friday, we remember his death; and during the Vigil of Easter, we await the passage of Christ through death into life.
All are welcome to join us as we observe these Holy Week services at Christ the Good Shepherd Lutheran, 600 Shepard Ave.:
- Maundy Thursday Worship Service, March 28, at 7 p.m.
- Good Friday Worship Service, March 29, at 7 p.m.
- Easter Sunday Worship Service, Sunday, March 31, at 10 a.m.
Easter Morning Vigil Planned at Grace & St. John’s
On the night before Easter Day, Christians around the world gather to celebrate Christ’s passage from death to life. On Easter morning, Sunday, March 31, Christ the Good Shepherd will gather with the congregation of Grace & St. John’s Episcopal Church, Hamden, to await Christ’s coming in an early morning Easter Vigil.
This 4:30 a.m. service will include both strong signs and words, including new fire in the darkness; light spreading from the light of Christ; the water and Word of baptism; and the first resurrection meal at dawn; and the great saving stories of the Hebrew Scriptures and the first Easter Gospel. With lamps lit, the vigil awaits Christ’s coming, and celebrates his victory over death. The public is invited to attend.
