Ashes will be distributed on Ash Wednesday, March 5, at Christ the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Hamden, Conn.
As in years past, ashes will be distributed at our “Ashes-to-Go” observance on Ash Wednesday, March 5, in the parking lot of Christ the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 600 Shepard Ave., Hamden. All the faithful are welcome to stop by and receive ashes as a sign of their mortality, their baptism, and the start of this years’ 40-day Lenten journey to Easter. With the help of Rev. Milton Brasher-Cunningham of Mount Carmel UCC, ashes will be distributed to the public from 7:30 – 9:30 am and 11:30 am – 1:30 pm.
On Ash Wednesday evening at 7 pm, CGSLC will also continue its tradition of gathering with our full-communion partners in Hamden for a joint-worship service offering the imposition of ashes as well as praiseful music and round-robin preaching. The congregations invited to participate this year are Mount Carmel UCC, 3284 Whitney Ave., who is hosting the gathering; Dunbar and Spring Glen UCC; Hamden Plains United Methodist Church; and Grace & St. John’s Episcopal Church.
In addition to these Ash Wednesday services, Christ the Good Shepherd Lutheran will offer contemplative Evening Prayer services with Lectio Divina at 7 pm on all Wednesdays of Lent in collaboration with Grace & St. John’s Episcopal Church. The following are our other services and collaborations during Holy Week:
