In the confession we used on Ash Wednesday, we were invited into the “disciplines of Lent—self-examination and repentance, prayer and fasting, sacrificial giving and works of love.” As we practice those disciplines in our own ways, we invite you to participate in the gathering of a special offering during the Lenten season to support the vital work of our Evangelical Lutheran Church in America’s (ELCA) World Hunger Appeal.
This Lent, you are invited to set aside what you would spend on one meal a week (you determine the amount) to contribute to the ELCA World Hunger Appeal. The number of those suffering from severe hunger and food insecurity has doubled globally during the pandemic. Our gifts will make a life-saving difference.
Please make your check payable to Christ the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and write “Lenten Hunger Appeal” in the memo line. The first $100 received through our Lenten Hunger offerings will go to a special match appeal through our New England Synod. Checks can be mailed directly to the church at: Christ the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 600 Shepard Ave., Hamden, CT 06514.
The projects that will be supported in this match are not only feeding ministries but vital development work in Rwanda and Malawi. For more information about these projects, please download the February 10 newsletter on this website.
