As the holiday season quickly approaches, the Salvation Army is once again looking for local “angels” to help provide Christmas gifts for children of local families in need through its “Angel Tree” program. Christ the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Hamden, Connecticut, is once again heeding the call.
Thanks to community support, the Salvation Army’s “Angel Tree” program served 217 families in 2021, supplying Christmas gifts to 355 children in the Greater New Haven area. Christ the Good Shepherd Lutheran supported 10 of those children last year with four gifts of toys and clothing each, and will be doing the same in 2022.
“With all of the looming uncertainty of lasting pandemic effects and inflation at an all-time high, we are expecting a decrease in donations and an increase in assistance requests,” said Major Kathy Adams, Corps Officer, New Haven Citadel Corps, The Salvation Army, Southern New England Division, New Haven. “Your help is instrumental in our ability to make Christmas all it can be this year.”
At Christ the Good Shepherd, the “Angel Tree” is on display Sunday, Nov. 13, through Sunday, Dec. 4. Those interested in shopping for one or more children are invited to select a tag or tags from the tree and sign their name by the corresponding “Angel” on the signup sheet. All unwrapped gifts (with “Angel Tags” attached) should be brought to church on Sunday, Dec. 4, where they will be organized and delivered to the Salvation Army in New Haven by Friday, Dec. 9, for distribution to local families.
