Some walked, some ran, some even biked or swam. But together, Team Christ the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Hamden, Connecticut, logged more than 2,200 miles in support of Calumet’s 2022 “Walk the Walk” fundraiser – the length of the entire Appalachian Trail!
Led by Team Captain Cyndi Hansard, the 15-member team logged an impressive 2,217 miles between July 1 through August 31 to benefit Calumet, a ministry of the Lutheran Church, ELCA, which offers year-round camping programs and retreats for youth, adults and families on beautiful Lake Ossipee in Freedom, New Hampshire.
“Camp Calumet provides a safe space for all people to experience God’s love in a beautiful outdoor setting,” said Hansard, who served as Christ the Good Shepherd’s team captain for the second year in a row. “Camp Calumet was, and still is, one of the most significant influences in my life.
“This year, our team doubled last year’s numbers – in teammates and in miles – and I am so thankful to everyone for supporting this important ministry of the Lutheran Church,” she said. “I look forward to participating in ‘Walk the Walk’ next year, hopefully with an even bigger team from Christ the Good Shepherd!”
Last year, 1,800 people (and pets) from across New England walked 269,775 miles and raised more than $115,000 for Calumet. Team Christ the Good Shepherd helped Calumet surpass its 2021 goals with a small but mighty team of eight—including one canine companion—who logged 1,194 miles.
